Two COVID-19 cases confirmed in Fungurume; mine allowed to operate

This Wednesday, June 24, Richard Muyej, the Governor of Lualaba Province in DRC, announced during a press briefing that two cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in the Fungurume Health Zone.

These two people with symptoms of Covid-19 were transferred on June 14 to Lubumbashi, in the Province of Haut-Katanga. Samples were taken and sent to the Provincial Laboratory in Lubumbashi on June 17. The results released on June 22 by the Provincial Laboratory of Lubumbashi confirm that these are two positive cases of Covid-19.

The two were released from the hospital and are being transferred to the Lubumbashi quarantine site.

In order to identify the people who were in contact with the two patients, the Community of Fungurume will be confined on Saturday, June 27, 2020.

No traveler or vehicle bound for Fungurume will be allowed during the confinement period, with the exception of transport from Tenke Fungurume mine. Vehicles and travelers passing without stopping at Fungurume, as well as members of the Provincial and Local Committees, are not affected by this limitation.

In addition, it is specified that the activities of the Tenke Fungurume Mining Company will continue with its personnel on site.
